The Duchess & Dressmaker is a stylish bar and restaurant in Brentwood, Essex, created from a former high-street restaurant site. SW Bruce oversaw a full internal and external refurbishment including a bespoke garden room extension, cellar expansion, and a bar space featuring creative stone, timber, and lighting details for McMullen & Sons Ltd.

The design is biophilic in nature — blending live and artificial planting installations, trellis frames with ivy and florals, and sculptural greenery to enhance ambience and visual interest throughout the interiors.

Unique features include a custom fold-away DJ station, transformed into a sleek shelving unit, and a tailored selfie booth built via bespoke joinery — both seamlessly integrated into the overall design narrative.

In transforming the space, every element was curated to merge elegance, vibrancy and functionality — delivering a destination that feels modern, immersive, and richly layered, in harmony with the venue’s hospitality purpose.
